Malvern St James Girls鈥 School will be accepting boys from September 2025, the 132-year-old school has announced.
The school, which has very recently joined the , will be known as Malvern St James School (MSJ).
Other UK schools in include Plymouth College, Durham High School and Ruthin School in North Wales.
The decision follows in the footsteps of another prominent girls’ school 鈥 Godolphin in Salisbury 鈥 which announced in December 2023 that it would become co-educational.
A statement from the school said a successful inspection in February had encouraged it to offer educational opportunities to boys aged 3 to 18.
“MSJ is also responding to a global society that on balance favours co-education, thus ensuring future security within a competitive market,” the statement added.
Head Dr Gareth Lloyd said: 鈥淚 want to assure everyone that this transition is rooted in an educational philosophy that embraces inclusion, respect and preparation for life beyond MSJ.
鈥淲e believe that welcoming boys to MSJ will enrich the learning environment, broaden perspectives, and provide every student with an even stronger foundation for success beyond school.鈥
In becoming a co-educational school, MSJ鈥檚 core philosophy and values will remain unchanged, the school said.
The school said that facilities at the school were “being assessed to ensure that they are welcoming and accommodating for boys, while enhancing the experience for all students.”
