An historic school in Chancellor Rachel Reeves鈥 Yorkshire constituency has announced it is to close due to declining pupil numbers.

Fulneck School in Pudsey, which dates back to 1753 and was attended by actress Dame Diana Rigg and prime minister Herbert Asquith, blamed 鈥渁 continued decline in enrolment, combined with rising operational costs鈥 for the decision. It lies within the Leeds West and Pudsey constituency where Chancellor Rachel Reeves is the local MP.

The decision comes just a week after in the Peak District announced its own closure plans blaming similar circumstances.

Fulneck, which was , will be the 14th independent school to announce closure or possible closure since VAT on fees came into effect on January 1 this year.
